From that point I really wished she would fail or Kyouya would just dump her (a lot to expect from shoujo anime, I know.) And then by the end of the episode, after being all strong and resistant, Erika decides to possibly force herself on him FOR YEARS until he gives in?! No matter what horrible things he would say to her, she would ignore it all by, let's say, receiving a bloody necklace and forgetting all about the embarrassament she gone through! That just killed the last respect I had for her and I realised how shallow and stupid her character is. I was like ''You go girl!'' and was really enjoying Erika learning to be an independent woman, him being jealous / losing control over her. I started loving the anime around the mid way through where she actually nicely told Kyouya to hit the road. Allows to be treated like dirt (girls like ''Bad'' guys, huh?), forces herself onto someone, to the point where I felt embarrassed for her. I am not a feminist, or anything close but the way she represents young women, is unbelievably bad. I was actually wishing she would fail in any attempt or mission. However I soon started wishing I would end The only thing I can relate to in this anime, was heroine's name - Erika! It was amazing to watch an anime with my first name spoken so often and cute, Erika Chan! It got me very excited from the very beginning, decent humour, nicely drawn animation, hot but cold main male lead, what else could I ask for? Got me rolling. Please be aware my review will contain minor story spoilers. I have never reviewed anything, but since nobody I know cares about anime, I needed some sort of platform to express how I felt after this anime. The anime wasn't necessarily good per se, but watching it for the sake of entertainment and not being too critical can make it somewhat enjoyable due to the silliness of it all. I especially appreciated the respect each had learned for how the other expressed affection, and the sacrifices made on pride or ideals of intimacy for the sake of the partner. I still feel that the great transition in their relationship was abrupt, and perhaps the emerging feelings of romance for each other could have been milked more, but again, the characters do actually develop (though without any real prompt), and it was nice to see the change that they went through because of their so-called love. I cannot emphasize how cliche and how dangerous the reinforcement of ignorance on actual relationships the "my love is going to change him"-without basis nor reason, I might add- idea is, but I decided to watch with the lens of "I guess that how life goes sometimes," and took a step back to enjoy the rest of the series. characters' actual "personalities." What's more is that they end up in an abusive relationship, where I could swear that the "girlfriend" developed symptoms of battered wife syndrome.Īs the story unfolded, and one stereotypical twist after another, I eventually mellowed down and grew to appreciate the character growth that took place. Throughout the series, their "labels" or defining traits only come out when it's convenient or when something needs to be done for the plot, and not because of the I say "insubstantial" because, even if these features are actually in the title, they're not even consistent in these characterizations. Does having a sad childhood excuse treating someone like a dog? No.Īt the beginning, I thought it was very cringeworthy and actually painful to watch due to all the vapid normalcy and overdramatic/exaggerated mannerisms of the characters: we have a ridiculously shallow, pathological liar for a leading lady and a shinning-but-actually-dark prince archetype, who, because of these exact so-called personalities, were put together by insubstantial circumstances. Was the lie really important enough to put up with that kind of treatment? No. No matter how badly he treats her.Īrt and soundtrack aside, I hated this anime with a passion. At first I felt bad for the heroine but eventually I got over that too. Thats only marginally okay if it was like a bedroom think. Also the fact he literally treats and refers to her as a dog. The girl is really needy and the guy doesn’t give anything. we see the girl get treated like crap and still fall in love. So other than playing out as a cute little story of him warming up and becoming a good person, And, again, I liked the idea of the story.įirst and foremost, the jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold only works if the jerk has a heart of gold. The art was amazing, in my humble opinion. And with the addition of a jerk-with-a-heart-of-gold? Score! Except not really, since I hate this anime so much. I liked the premise of it - I’m a sucker for the fake relationship trope.
